Turn your clean silver scrap into usable material!
In this hands-on, two-day intensive, students will learn the complete process of reclaiming sterling silver — from melting and pouring ingots to transforming them into wire and sheet ready for fabrication.
Guided by experienced instructors at El Dorado Casting Lab, participants will gain confidence using essential metalsmithing tools and techniques, including:
Melting and pouring clean sterling silver scrap into ingots
Using rolling mills to create uniform sheet and wire stock
Drawing wire through draw plates for precise sizing
Annealing techniques to soften and control metal during forming
Safe studio practices for handling torches and molten metal
This class is ideal for jewelers, metalsmiths, and students interested in sustainable material use and hands-on metal preparation. No prior casting experience required — just a willingness to learn and work safely with molten metal.
All tools and materials provided.
Students are welcome to bring their own clean sterling scrap to melt down. If you choose this option please make us aware upon registration. We will verify that your material is suitable for use.
